More Like Her

I gave you ten years and my life,
Two kids and a loving home;
I gave you endless pleasure every night,
A million hugs and kisses;
I guess I should have been more like that

I gave you each breath I ever took,
And every smile I had in me;
I kept my promise; through hard times I stayed
I weathered in sickness and in health;
I guess I should have been more like that

She made you smile when you were sad,
Held your hand and promised to never let go;
She made you laugh until you cried;
Loneliness you’d never feel inside,
I guess I should have been more like that

You ran to her when things got bad,
Laid in her arms instead of mine;
She gave you love, even when I offered more,
Even when I cried, you’d still walk away;
I guess I should have been more like that

She took it all, like she had no pain,
Even when she was dying inside;
She’s stronger than I ever will be;
You love her, and she loves you the same;
I guess I should have been more like that

I’ve given up on trying to win your heart,
But the fight she will never end;
She’ll try ‘til her dying breath;
You chose her, and left me in the cold;
I guess I should have been more like her
